The Story & Vibe
Get ready for an engaging evening at The Understudy Coffee and Books on Tuesday, October 13th at 7:30 pm! We’re launching our series, "The Ground on Which We Stand," where we dive into the powerful influence of Black playwrights on Chicago’s theatre scene. Join us for an interactive conversation featuring Chuck Smith, the Goodman’s resident director, and Chloë Jackson, a Ph.D. candidate in Theatre and Black Studies at Northwestern. They’ll discuss the incredible legacy of August Wilson and how his unique perspective on Black culture continues to resonate in Chicago’s theatre landscape. You’ll have the chance to ask questions, gain insights into Chuck’s creative process, and enjoy archival excerpts that highlight Wilson’s impact. Doors open at 7 pm, so come early to grab a drink and some tasty bites from Pizza Lobo! Tickets are Pay What You Can, with a suggested donation of $5 to support future programming. We can’t wait to see you there!
