The Story & Vibe
Step into a thought-provoking journey at the "Echoes of In*dependence" exhibition, celebrating the rich histories of Cabo Verde, Suriname, Congo, and Ghana as they reflect on their paths to independence. This exhibition dives deep into what independence truly means, highlighting how, despite new flags, many colonial structures still linger, allowing foreign companies to benefit from local resources and perpetuating economic inequality. You'll discover the powerful stories of women like Andrée Blouin and Johanna Schouten-Elsenhout, who played vital roles in the liberation movements but have often been overlooked. With contemporary works from talented artists of the African diaspora, Suriname, and the Netherlands, this exhibition connects historical narratives to today's movements for justice. Join us from April 23 to October 31, 2026, at The Black Archives in Amsterdam, open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Plus, look out for engaging public events, including lectures and discussions, that will enrich your experience!
